Brunch with John, Paul, George & Ringo.

He-He-Help!

Or just “Help”: as well as being a hit song by the four-man cult band from Liverpool, it is also a comical slapstick film with catchy musical numbers and perhaps the most successful musicians of all time in the lead roles: George, Paul, John and Ringo. In addition to the Bahamas, the cult group also chose as their setting the tranquil winter resort of Obertauern, which was supposed to represent the Swiss Alps.

So, in March 1965, the legendary Beatles came to Obertauern. The film was shot directly opposite our Hotel Römerhof on the Kirchbühllift.

Hungry and thirsty from the stimulating mountain air, the “Fab Four” repeatedly returned to the Römerhof to enjoy a spot of “lunch” or “teatime”.

Even today, many of those who took part in filming remember those glory days in 1965. One of them is Gerhard Krings, Obertauern pioneer and former Römerbar barkeeper, who stood in as George Harrison’s double.

Since that time, the history of the Beatles and Obertauern have been inextricably linked.

The Römerhof: a piece of music history

Here at the Hotel Römerhof, many traces of this history can still be found: photographs from the time, original signatures and of course the very special spirit brought to Obertauern by the legendary Beatles.

The concert given by the Beatles in Obertauern also remains unforgotten: it was the first and only concert ever given in Austria by the Fab Four from Liverpool.
