The Mayer family builds a small private house near the bottom station of the Gamsleitenlift.

Ing. Hans and Dr. Grete Mayer buy land to build Alpenhotel Römerhof with 35 rooms there. The hotel opens in 1959.

The legendary Römerbar opens its doors and becomes a popular meeting place for locals and guests in Obertauern.

A visit of legends. During the making of the movie "Help", The Beatles visit the hotel’s sun terrace for a relaxing tea time.

1971 – 1976

We add an indoor pool with sauna to our house, as well as north-facing rooms for the staff, 20 additional rooms and a larger restaurant area.

1984

The second generation of the Mayer family takes over the hotel and passionately works for new amenities in the house.

1984/1985

The Schaidberg chair lift is purchased by the Mayer family and modernized to become a state-of-the-art 6-person chairlift.

1990 – 1999

With the most outstanding property of the Römerhof – the tower, also new suites, a spacious entrance area and parking spaces are built and many parts are renovated.

2004 – 2008

The Mayer family constructs the ski bridge, allowing the guests to access the slopes directly from the ski cellar. The spa area is extended and new suites and a comfortable staff house are built.

2018

The third generation of the family takes over the hotel, renovating the RömerBar, reconstructing the top floor, adding a new facade and panorama suites to the house.

An extensive reconstruction takes place, adding 6 panorama suites, refurbishing the restaurant, extending and modernizing the kitchen and staff house.
